By the end of this guide you'll have created a holding in Covercy One, reviewed the share classes it starts with, and know where to find the investor positions that belong to it.
Note
Creating and editing holdings is a GP task. You need access to your firm's workspace, and editing ownership and share class details is a GP Admin action. If a field or action is unavailable, ask a workspace admin to make the change or grant you access.
What a holding is
A holding represents an investment you manage. Covercy One supports two holding types: a Fund, which can invest in other holdings, and an Asset, a single property or direct investment. The type you choose shapes the rest of the holding — for example, only Fund holdings show a Portfolio tab listing the holdings the fund invests in.
Create a holding
Open Holdings and start a new holding to reach the creation form at /gp/holdings/new.
- Enter the holding's Name. This is required.
- Choose the holding Type — Fund or Asset.
- Select the holding Currency.
- Choose how ownership is tracked using the Is Unitized choice cards, Unitized or Non-unitized. Selecting Fund preselects Unitized and selecting Asset preselects Non-unitized; you can override the choice after picking a type. Each card explains the difference between unit-based and contribution-based ownership.
- Optionally upload a holding image and set any other available details.
