- Why can't an investor see a holding even though I turned the portal on?
- Turning the portal on only reveals a holding to investors who hold a position in it. If the investor isn't connected to the holding — for example they were never added through a fundraise or import — they won't see it regardless of the toggle. Both conditions are required: the investor has a position, and the portal is on for that holding.
- Where can I turn the investor portal on or off?
- In three places, and they all behave the same way: the Investor Portal column in your Holdings table, the Show in investor portal toggle in the Visibility section of a holding's Investor Portal Settings page, and the Investor Portal column on a fund's Portfolio tab. All three use the same confirmation dialog, the same Enable Only and Enable & Notify choices, and the same notification email, and all three always show the same current state — so use whichever is most convenient.
- If I toggle a holding from a fund's Portfolio tab, does it affect the fund too?
- No. The switch in the Investor Portal column changes the holding named in that row, not the fund you're viewing it from. The setting belongs to the holding itself and is the same everywhere, so turning it on from the Portfolio tab is identical to turning it on from the Holdings table for that holding.
- A holding I turned off is still listed on the fund's Portfolio tab — is it still visible to investors?
- No. Your view keeps listing the holding with its switch in the off position so you can find it and turn it back on. Investors don't see it at all while the toggle is off.
- How do I change what investors see on a holding?
- Those choices are org-wide, not per holding. Open the Investor Portal Configuration page from Settings, then set each row — Capital Returned and Profit in the Performance section, USD Equivalents if you hold at least one non-USD holding, and Structure in the Deal information section — and save. A holding's Investor Portal Settings page links you there as well, and your choices apply across the holdings your investors can view.
- What do the All, Assets, Funds, and Hidden options mean?
- They control where investors see that item. All shows it on every holding, Assets shows it on your asset holdings only, Funds shows it on your fund holdings only, and Hidden means investors never see it.
- If I hide Capital Returned or Profit, can investors still see it anywhere?
- No. Hiding a figure hides it everywhere an investor would see it — the summary card for a holding and the positions column beneath it — and it won't turn up in a column total or a grouped view either. You set it once and the figure is hidden in every place it could otherwise appear.
- What does the USD Equivalents setting do?
- It decides whether your investors see the USD equivalent of each performance metric, including currency gains and losses, alongside the figures in the holding's own currency. You'll find it in the Performance section of the Investor Portal Configuration page. It starts visible, so investors see the USD equivalent unless you set it to Hidden — in which case they see only the holding's own currency.
- Why don't I see a USD Equivalents setting?
- The row appears only if you hold at least one holding that isn't denominated in USD. If every holding you manage is denominated in USD, there's nothing to convert, so the setting doesn't appear — and holdings denominated in USD are never affected by it.
- What does the Structure setting control?
- It decides whether an investor in one of your funds can see the holdings that fund owns. Investors only ever see downward from the fund they invested in, never the vehicles above it, and setting Structure to Hidden removes that view entirely. Your own view of a holding's structure is never affected.
- Why does an investor see a figure on my holding but not on their portfolio-wide screen?
- Portfolio-wide screens can combine holdings from several sponsors. On those screens a figure appears only when every sponsor involved is showing it, so one sponsor hiding it removes it from the combined view even though it still appears on your holding's own page.
- Does turning the portal off delete anything?
- No. It only hides the holding from investors. All of the holding's data stays intact on your side, and the holding reappears in investors' portals the moment you turn the toggle back on.
- Do investors get an email when I turn the portal off?
- No. Turning the portal off happens immediately with no confirmation and no notification. The holding simply stops appearing in investor views. Notifications are only sent when you turn the portal on and choose Enable & Notify.
- Can I turn the portal on without emailing investors?
- Yes. Choose Enable Only in the confirmation dialog. The holding becomes visible to its investors, but no notification email is sent.
- What does the notification email include?
- It uses your firm's branding (logo, colors, and organization name), greets the investor by name, names the holding, includes any personal message you wrote, and has a View in Investor Portal button linking the investor to their holdings.
- Why is Enable & Notify unavailable?
- There are no investors with a position in that holding yet, so there's no one to notify. Use Enable Only to make the holding ready, and add investors through a fundraise or import — they'll be able to see it once they have a position.
