By the end of this guide you'll understand the over-capacity notice on a holding — why a holding or a share class can show an ownership percentage far above 100%, which figure is too small, and how to correct it in one click or by editing the field yourself.
Note
You need access to your firm's GP workspace and permission to edit the holding. Read-only holding views show the notice but not its buttons.
Why the notice appears
Ownership percentages are worked out against a declared capacity: a holding's capacity on the Details tab, and a share class's capacity on the class itself. When what's already booked is bigger than the capacity you declared, the percentages that divide by that capacity overshoot — which is how a position can show a Deal % or Class % in the thousands or even the millions.
The notice tells you that's what happened. It isn't an error in your positions, and nothing is lost: a figure you entered is simply smaller than the commitments or units sitting under it.
Where you'll see it
The notice sits below the holding header and above the tab strip, in the same band as the target reached banner and the active fundraises card. Because it's part of the holding's shell, it stays visible on every tab — Overview, Positions, Share Classes and the rest — so you see the explanation on the same screen as the inflated percentage.
If more than one thing is over capacity, you get one notice per finding: a holding that's over capacity and has two share classes over capacity shows three notices, each with its own figures and its own buttons.
Read the notice
There are two kinds of notice, and the title tells you which one you're looking at.
