By the end of this guide you'll have invited one or more placement firms to your fund's selling group, so brokers can begin submitting investor packages on your behalf.
Note
Setting up a selling group is a GP task. You need GP-level access to the fund you want to configure. If your fund uses a direct-only placement model, the Selling Group tab is not shown — this guide applies to funds that allow placement via broker-dealer or RIA firms.
Understand the selling group roles
Each firm you add has one of two roles on the fund:
- MBD (Managing Broker-Dealer) — manages and sells. An MBD can also review investor packages submitted by the brokers assigned to it.
- Broker (BD or RIA) — sells only. Brokers submit investor packages; their packages are reviewed by the MBD you assign as their reviewer, or by you directly if no MBD is on the fund.
Tip
A fund can have more than one MBD. When you invite a broker, you choose which MBD reviews that broker's packages. If your fund has no MBD, you serve as the reviewer for all broker submissions.
