By the end of this guide you'll know how to open Neo, start and manage conversations, let Neo draft a report for you, and copy answers or send feedback on responses — everything you need to start using your AI assistant in Covercy One.
Note
Neo is available to GP users throughout the GP experience — you can open the chat panel from any page. Investors have their own version of Neo in the investor portal; this article covers the GP experience.
Open and close the Neo chat panel
- Click Ask NEO in the top navigation bar to open the chat panel. The input field is focused automatically so you can start typing right away.
- Alternatively, press Ctrl+/ on Windows or Cmd+/ on Mac from anywhere in the GP experience to toggle the panel open or closed. The Ask NEO button also shows the shortcut hint next to its label.
- To close the panel, click Ask NEO again or use the same keyboard shortcut.
Tip
When you open the panel on a page Neo understands — such as your contacts list, your holdings list, or a specific record — it shows a few pinned suggestions tailored to what you're viewing, with a header that names the page (for example, "On Contacts" or "For Acme Corp"). Click any suggestion to send it without typing. As you move between these pages, the Ask NEO button briefly animates to signal that Neo has context for the page you just opened.
Start a conversation
- Open the Neo chat panel. If no conversation is active, you'll see the empty state — headed "Ask NEO anything" — with suggested prompts to get you started.
- Type your question or request in the input box and press Enter (or click the send button). Neo responds in real time — the answer appears word by word as it is generated, and your replies from Neo are labeled "NEO".
- Continue typing follow-up messages in the same input box to keep the conversation going. Neo remembers the context of your current conversation.
Tip
When you ask Neo for a list — contacts, holdings, positions, and so on — it may present the results in a table you can sort, rearrange, search, and export. Neo can also do much more than answer questions: it can find and summarize your data, jump you to a page or record, draft emails, and create tasks, contacts, and entities. See "Ask Neo about your data" and "Get things done with Neo" for those workflows.
Warning
Neo always asks you to confirm before it changes anything — creating or updating a contact or entity, creating or assigning a task, or sending an email. Nothing happens until you review the details and click Confirm.
Let Neo draft a report
- On the Create Report page, choose the "NEO AI Draft (Recommended)" mode, then add your key updates and any supporting documents.
- Click Generate Report. Neo displays a full-screen progress overlay headed "NEO is preparing your report", showing the report title so you can follow along while the draft is built.
- The overlay shows a checklist that reflects what you entered — analyzing your key updates, reviewing any attachments you added, and drafting each report section you selected. Each step moves from pending to in progress to complete as Neo works.
- When drafting finishes, Neo takes you to the report studio, where you can review the draft, edit any section, and use NEO Improve to refine the writing.
Warning
While Neo is generating your draft, the Create Report form is covered and can't be edited until generation completes. If Neo can't finish the draft, the overlay closes, the form becomes editable again, and an error message explains what happened — adjust your input and try again.
Start a new conversation
- Click the New conversation button inside the chat panel. The current messages are cleared and Neo resets to an empty state.
- Your previous conversation is saved automatically and remains accessible in the conversation history. It is not deleted when you start a new one.
- Type your first message to begin the new conversation.
Switch between conversations
- Open the conversation history in the chat panel.
- Click the conversation you want to return to. Neo loads the messages from that conversation and makes it the active one.
- You can continue sending messages in the conversation you switched to.
Rename a conversation
- Open the conversation history and locate the conversation you want to rename.
- Click the rename option on that conversation. An inline edit field appears showing the current title.
- Edit the title and save. The conversation list updates to show the new name.
Delete a conversation
- Open the conversation history and locate the conversation you want to remove.
- Click the Delete action on that conversation.
- The conversation is permanently removed and no longer appears in the history list. If you deleted the active conversation, the panel resets to an empty state.
Warning
Deleting a conversation is permanent. The messages cannot be recovered after deletion.
Copy a response to your clipboard
- Find the assistant message you want to copy.
- Click the Copy action on that message. Neo copies the message content as plain text to your clipboard.
- A brief visual confirmation appears to confirm the copy was successful. You can now paste the text anywhere.
Send feedback on a response
- Find the assistant message you want to rate.
- Click the thumbs up button if the response was helpful, or the thumbs down button if it was not. The selected button shows a highlighted state.
- You can change your feedback by clicking the other button — for example, clicking thumbs down after thumbs up replaces your earlier rating.
Note
Your feedback helps improve Neo over time. Ratings are recorded against the specific response you rated.
If Neo returns an error
If Neo cannot complete a request, it displays a user-friendly error message and a Retry button. Click Retry to re-send your last message. If the error persists, try rephrasing your question or contact the Covercy team for assistance.
Verify and get help
Neo's responses appear in the chat panel as they are generated. For data queries, Neo may include links to the relevant records in Covercy One so you can open and verify the information directly. If a response does not look right, try asking Neo to clarify or rephrase your question. Reach out to the Covercy team if you need further assistance.
- Is there a keyboard shortcut to open Neo?
- Yes. Press Ctrl+/ on Windows or Cmd+/ on Mac from anywhere in the GP experience to toggle the Neo chat panel open or closed. When opened this way, the input field is focused automatically. The Ask NEO button in the top bar also shows the shortcut hint next to its label.
- Will Neo lose my conversation history if I start a new one?
- No. When you click New conversation, your previous conversation is saved and remains in the conversation history. You can switch back to it at any time by clicking it in the history list.
- Can I recover a conversation I deleted?
- No. Deleting a conversation removes it permanently. There is no way to recover deleted messages.
- What are the pinned suggestions in the panel?
- When you open Neo on a page it understands, it shows a few pinned prompts tailored to what you're viewing — for example, contact-related prompts on the Contacts page or holding-related prompts on the Holdings page. A header names the current page, and on a record's detail page it can include the record's name. Click any suggestion to send it as a message without typing it out.
- Why does the Ask NEO button animate when I move between pages?
- When you navigate to a page Neo has context for, the Ask NEO button briefly animates its letters to let you know Neo is aware of what you're viewing. You can then open the panel and ask questions about the current page without spelling out the context yourself. The button stays clickable throughout, and the animation is skipped if you've turned on reduced motion.
- Can Neo write a report for me?
- Yes. On the Create Report page, choose the "NEO AI Draft (Recommended)" mode and add your updates and any documents. When you click Generate Report, Neo shows a full-screen progress overlay while it drafts each section, then opens the report studio so you can review and edit the draft.
- Can I use Neo on the investor portal?
- Neo is available to investors in the investor portal as well. This article covers the GP experience. An investor-specific guide is available separately.
