By the end of this guide you'll have created a distribution on one of your holdings, set its period and source of funds, calculated each investor's allocation pro rata, and saved it as a draft you can review before sending notices or paying out.
Note
Creating distributions is a GP task. You need access to your firm's workspace and to the holding you're distributing from. If the Distributions tab or New Distribution action isn't available, ask a workspace admin to grant you access.
Before you start
A distribution belongs to a holding, so make sure the holding, its share classes, and its investor positions are set up first. Allocations are calculated from each position's ownership, so accurate positions give you accurate amounts. If you intend to pay investors through Covercy, banking setup and payment are covered separately under Banking & payments — you can create and review a distribution as a draft without it.
Start a new distribution
- Open the holding you're distributing from and go to its Distributions tab.
- Select New Distribution to open the distribution form.
- Set the Distribution Period first — choose Monthly, Quarterly, or a Custom date range, then the relevant month, quarter, or start and end dates.
- Review the Distribution name, which is auto-filled from the period (for example, "Distribution Q4 2026"). You can edit it if you'd like a different name.
- Confirm the Distribution date. It defaults to the last day of the period you chose, and you can change it.
