Invest in an opportunity

Open an invitation from your sponsor, work through the guided investment wizard, sign when it's your turn if others sign the agreement too, fund your commitment from a bank in the US or abroad, and pick up where you left off whenever you pause.

By the end of this guide you'll know how to open an investment invitation from your sponsor, move through the guided investment wizard from choosing your investing entity to funding your commitment, what to expect when other people sign the agreement too, how to pay from a bank inside or outside the US, how to step back to the opportunity page without losing your place, and how to resume the flow whenever you come back to it.

Note

Investing in an opportunity starts with an invitation from your sponsor (GP). You receive a link by email; opening it brings you to the sponsor's opportunity page and then into the investment wizard. If you expected an invitation but cannot find one, contact the sponsor who manages the deal.

Open your invitation

  1. Open the invitation link your sponsor sent you.
  2. Review the opportunity details on the landing page so you understand the deal.
  3. When you're ready, select Invest Now to start the investment wizard.

Note

If your sponsor sent you straight to a later step — for example, to sign an agreement or to fund a capital call after you've already committed — opening the link may take you directly into the wizard rather than the opportunity page. Steps that are already settled appear locked. You can still go back and read the deal at any time using the back controls described below.

Work through the wizard

The wizard shows a progress stepper so you can always see which step you're on, which you've finished, and which are still ahead. You move through the steps in order.

  1. Entity — choose whether you're investing as an individual or through an entity, confirm your tax details, and answer whether you're an accredited investor. If your sponsor already has your entity on file, these fields are pre-filled for you to confirm; you can also select a different entity or create a new one. If you create a new entity and choose Individual, enter your Full name — it's already filled in from your invitation, and you can edit it. This is the name your investment and agreement show. If you choose Other as the Tax ID Type, select your Tax Country before you continue.
  2. Agreement — enter the amount you want to invest (at least the deal's minimum), confirm the entity you're signing as, then open and sign the investment agreement. Your amount is saved as soon as you leave the amount field, whether or not you go on to sign. A banner shows which entity you're signing as, with a Change entity link you can use up until you sign. If other people sign the agreement as well, this step works a little differently — see When others sign the agreement too below.
  3. Accreditation Verification — select Start Accreditation Process to begin verification, then continue.
  4. Payment — confirm where the bank you're paying from is located, fund your commitment, then finish. The payment options you see depend on the investment's currency and on where your bank is located.

Note

On some deals the amount you enter also determines which set of terms applies to your investment. If your sponsor set the deal up that way, the terms shown on the page update as you change the amount, and an amount below the deal's lowest tier stops you from continuing until you raise it.

Note

If your amount can't be saved — for example, because of a connection problem — the amount field tells you, and it goes back to the last amount that was saved. The agreement is prepared from that saved amount until a new one saves successfully, so check the field before you review and sign.

Note

On some deals your sponsor sets the amount for you. In that case the amount appears as plain text rather than a field you can type in — labelled Investment amount on the opportunity page and on the Request more information form, and Your investment amount on the Agreement step. To change it, contact your sponsor. If you had the opportunity open before your sponsor sent you their request, continuing takes you to the Agreement step at your sponsor's amount, with a short Amount updated note shown that one time. If you started on your own from your sponsor's public Invest Now link, the amount is yours to choose.

Tip

The agreement you sign always matches your current details. If your amount or any of the details printed on the agreement changed since it was prepared — for example, you switched entities — a fresh agreement is prepared when you select review and sign. If your sponsor changes the amount while you have the agreement open, you're asked to review it again before you sign.

Warning

Once you sign the agreement your investment amount is locked, and once you move past the agreement step you can no longer go back to change your amount or entity. This keeps the signed agreement and the recorded amount in sync. Confirm both are correct before you sign.

When others sign the agreement too

Some subscription agreements are signed by more people than you and your sponsor, one at a time in a set order, with your sponsor counter-signing last. When your agreement works that way, what you see on the agreement step depends on whose turn it is to sign.

  • Before your sponsor has arranged the other signers — you see a thank-you page instead of the agreement and can't start signing yet. There's nothing for you to do; your sponsor finishes setting up who signs.
  • While someone ahead of you still has to sign — you see a waiting page with the people who have Already signed and who is Next to sign. You can't sign yet, and you're emailed once it's your turn.
  • When it's your turn — you receive an email with a Review & Sign button. Selecting it, or selecting Continue on the agreement step, opens the agreement so you can review and sign it as usual.
  • After you sign, while someone after you still has to sign — you stay on the agreement step and see a waiting page listing the people who still need to sign.

You move on from the agreement step once everyone other than your sponsor has signed — your sponsor's counter-signature can still be pending at that point. You don't receive another signing request once you've signed.

Note

The waiting pages list people by name and email only, without the capacity in which they sign. Your sponsor may also have people sign who don't appear on these lists; they still sign in their place in the order, so the agreement can take a little longer than the lists suggest.

Note

When an agreement is signed only by you and your sponsor, none of this applies: you review and sign on the agreement step as described above.

Go back to the opportunity page

You can return to the deal page from inside the flow whenever you want to re-read the offering before you act. Nothing you've done is lost, and nothing new is started.

  • On the Entity, Agreement, or Accreditation Verification step, select the Back control in the wizard header.
  • On a waiting screen — a step that needs your sponsor's approval, or a payment step your sponsor hasn't finished setting up yet — select Back to Opportunity.

Either way you land on the opportunity page, which shows a notice that your application is already in progress and a Continue control. Selecting Continue resumes the same application at the step you left — it never creates a second application or a new invitation. Opening the same opportunity from the Opportunities page of your investor portal works the same way: you see the deal itself rather than being sent straight back into the wizard.

Note

The back control only appears when there is a deal page to return to, so you may not see it on a link that doesn't carry an opportunity with it. If your sponsor's deal requires an NDA or accreditation before the details can be shown, those requirements still apply when you go back to the opportunity page.

Fund your commitment

The payment step first asks where the bank account you're paying from is located. It starts out set to your investing entity's country; change it if the bank you'll pay from is somewhere else. Your answer, together with the investment's currency and how your sponsor receives funds, decides which ways to pay you're offered.

  • The usual payment methods — for a US dollar investment paid from a US bank you typically see a Choose a payment method heading with ACH debit and Bank transfer. For an investment in another currency, bank transfer is the only method and its details are shown directly.
  • Covercy Pay — in some cases, the usual methods are replaced by an option to continue to Covercy Pay, where you complete the payment.
  • Bank transfer only — in other cases, you see your sponsor's bank transfer details directly and send the funds from your bank.
  • A prompt to select your country — if no bank location is set, you're asked to select your country, and you can't finish the step until you do.

Note

If you chose ACH debit and then change the bank location to somewhere outside the US, that choice no longer applies — pick from the options shown for the new location instead.

Send a bank transfer

  1. Select Bank transfer (or, where it's the only method, go straight to the details) to see your sponsor's receiving account details. The fields shown depend on the account — for example the account name and number, bank identifiers, and the beneficiary address.
  2. Copy each field with its copy button, or use Download Wire Instructions where it's offered to save a PDF you can hand to your bank.
  3. Send the funds from your bank.
  4. Back in the wizard, check I've transferred the funds. A panel opens where you can tell your sponsor how you sent the money — ACH or Wire — and enter the account number you sent it from.
  5. Select Finish to complete the step and reach the confirmation page.

Note

Both of those details are optional and neither is filled in for you: no transfer method is selected until you pick one. Choose ACH or Wire if you want your sponsor to know how the money is arriving, or leave them blank and finish anyway — in that case no method is recorded, rather than one being assumed on your behalf. Adding them simply helps your sponsor match your transfer when it lands.

Note

If you haven't sent the money yet, leave I've transferred the funds unchecked and select Finish. Your sponsor's receiving account details and the wire instructions download stay available on the confirmation page, so you can retrieve where to send the funds when you're ready.

Pay with Covercy Pay

When the payment step offers Covercy Pay, choose to continue to Covercy Pay. You're taken to Covercy Pay to complete the payment from your bank. If Covercy Pay can't be reached at that moment, the payment step tells you and offers a manual bank transfer instead, so you can still fund your commitment.

Pay from a linked bank account

When ACH debit is offered, you can instead pay directly from a bank account. Select ACH debit, then Start transferring to open the funding dialog. Confirm the amount, link a bank account or pick one you've linked before, and select Confirm Transfer. The dialog confirms the transfer with an expected arrival date, the payment step shows the transfer as under way, and Finish takes you to the confirmation page.

Note

If the ACH debit option appears greyed out, the page explains why — for example because of the size of this payment. You can still fund the investment by bank transfer, or contact your sponsor if you'd rather sort it out with them.

Warning

The payment step has no Previous or Back button into earlier wizard steps, because your signed agreement and your committed amount are already fixed by that point. If something about the amount or the entity is wrong when you reach payment, contact your sponsor rather than trying to complete the payment.

Pause and resume

You don't have to finish in one sitting. Your progress is saved as you go, so reopening the invitation link returns you to your current step rather than restarting. If you've already completed the investment, opening the link shows a completion notice instead of the wizard.

If your sponsor needs to approve you before you can continue — for example at a signing gate — you'll see a waiting screen and the affected step shows as waiting for approval. Once your sponsor approves you, you receive an email with a link that reopens the wizard at the unlocked step. From the waiting screen itself you can select Back to Opportunity to re-read the deal while you wait.

Verify and get help

To confirm your investment went through, reopen the invitation link: a completed investment shows the confirmation notice rather than the wizard. If you're waiting on other signers, the agreement step shows who still needs to sign. If you get stuck on a step you cannot pass — for example, a message that the sponsor must update the deal before you can sign — reach out to the sponsor who invited you, or contact the Covercy support team if the problem persists.

Warning

Covercy will never ask you to share your password, two-factor codes, or banking credentials by email, text, or phone. Always open Covercy directly rather than following links in unexpected messages, and if you receive a message claiming to be from Covercy or Covercy Pay that asks for personal or financial details, don't respond to it — contact your sponsor or Covercy support instead. If you're unsure whether a signing or payment email is genuine, sign in to Covercy yourself and continue your investment from there.

Why do I see a thank-you page instead of the agreement?
Your agreement is signed by other people as well as you and your sponsor, and your sponsor hasn't finished arranging who signs. You can't start signing until they do. Once it's your turn, you're emailed a Review & Sign button, and the agreement step lets you continue to the agreement. If you've been waiting a while, contact your sponsor.
Who are the people listed on the waiting page?
They're the other people signing your agreement, shown by name and email under Already signed and Next to sign. Signers sign one at a time in a set order, and you're emailed when it's your turn. Your sponsor counter-signs last and doesn't hold you up: you move on once everyone else has signed.
I've signed — why can't I move on to the next step?
Someone after you in the signing order still needs to sign. You stay on the agreement step, with a waiting page listing who still has to sign, until they do. You don't need to sign again or wait for your sponsor's counter-signature.
My bank is outside the US — how do I pay?
On the payment step, set the bank location to the country of the bank you'll pay from. Depending on that location and the investment, you're offered Covercy Pay or your sponsor's bank transfer details. Paying directly from a linked bank account is available only for US dollar investments paid from a US bank.
What if Covercy Pay isn't working when I try to pay?
The payment step tells you it couldn't continue to Covercy Pay and offers a manual bank transfer instead, so you're never left without a way to fund your commitment. You can also contact your sponsor for help.
Can I go back and re-read the deal without losing my progress?
Yes. Select the Back control in the wizard header on the entity, agreement, or accreditation step, or Back to Opportunity on a waiting screen. You land on the opportunity page with a notice that your application is in progress; Continue resumes that same application where you left it. Nothing new is created, and an invitation that took you straight to a step doesn't stop you from reviewing the deal.
Do I have to say whether I sent the funds by ACH or wire?
No. On the I've transferred the funds panel, neither the transfer method nor the source account number is required, and nothing is selected for you. Pick ACH or Wire if you want your sponsor to know how the money is arriving, or finish without choosing — no method is recorded in that case. Both details exist to help your sponsor match your transfer, so filling them in is helpful but never mandatory.
Why can't I type in a different investment amount?
On some deals your sponsor sets the amount, so it's shown as plain text instead of a field you can edit. If you think the amount should be different, contact your sponsor — they can change it for you. If you see an Amount updated note on the Agreement step, your sponsor's amount replaced one you'd entered earlier in a page you had open.
Why am I asked for my full name when I invest as an individual?
When you create a new entity as an Individual, the Full name you confirm is the name your investment and agreement show. It's filled in from your invitation; edit it if it isn't how your name should appear, then continue.
What is Tax Country, and why do I need it?
If your Tax ID Type is Other, you're also asked for the country that tax ID belongs to. Select it under Tax Country — you can't continue from the entity step until you do. If you change the Tax ID Type to something other than Other, the field no longer applies.
Can I change my entity or investment amount after I sign?
No. Once you sign the agreement your investment amount is locked, and once you've moved past the agreement step you can't return to change your amount or entity. This keeps the signed agreement consistent with the recorded commitment. If something needs to change after signing, contact the sponsor who invited you.
What happens if I close the wizard partway through?
Your progress is saved. Reopening the invitation link returns you to the step you were on, so you pick up where you left off instead of starting over.
Why can't I go back to an earlier step?
Some steps lock once you move past them. After the agreement step, the earlier steps stay locked so the signed agreement matches your recorded commitment, and the payment step never offers a way back into the wizard. Going back to the opportunity page is always available where a back control is shown — that returns you to the deal, not to an earlier step.
Do I have to be an accredited investor?
On the entity step you confirm whether you're an accredited investor, and the deal includes an accreditation verification step. If you're unsure about your accreditation status or which option applies to you, ask the sponsor who invited you to the opportunity.
How do I fund my investment by wire?
On the payment step, confirm where your bank is located, then choose Bank transfer (or use the transfer details shown directly) to see your sponsor's receiving account details. You can copy each field or, where offered, use Download Wire Instructions to share a PDF with your bank, then check I've transferred the funds and select Finish once you've sent it. If you finish without checking that box, those details remain available on the confirmation page.
The details say the account is restricted — what now?
Some receiving accounts don't release full details through the banking provider. When that happens the payment step shows a message naming your sponsor and asking you to contact them for transfer instructions instead of showing the account details. Contact your sponsor directly for where to send the funds.
