The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is a system that identifies bank account numbers in a variety of countries in order to facilitate the communication and processing of cross border payments. In a later stage it was adopted as an international standard and since many other countries adopted the system.

An IBAN consist of up to 34 digits, where the first two are English letters representing a two-digit country code, the following two digits are check digits and the remaining up to 30 digits represent an account number. In some countries, the remaining u to 30 digits are a combination of either or some of the following: account number, branch number, account type and national check digit.
